Introducing Zevia!

It gives me great pleasure to welcome a new regular to the site – Zevia! After getting to know him whilst putting together the article for QQ Premades both Serephim and I were impressed with his prior work on podcasts.

After some initial chats we were excited to welcome him on board the saate.net team! He’ll be using his amazing vocal talents to bring us a weekly podcast on…well..whatever you guys want it to be on! I’ll let Zevia introduce himself now, check out his great first episode:

What would you like to see in episode two? leave your questions, ideas and feedback below!

No, you didnt get “hacked”

Time for a rant, folks, because every time this topic comes up it gets me mad. In our modern day culture we tend to tiptoe around the use of any language that might posit a victim’s own culpability. This is especially true when it comes to the Warcraft Keylogging epidemic.

I have an authenticator attached to my three accounts. As well as that, and for some years prior to them being around, I use Firefox with the NoScript and Flashblock addons which prevents javascript or flash working on a site until I add that site to a whitelist. Brilliant setup and I’ve never had a worry.

Let’s take a look at the two terms really mean:

“Keylogged”A keylogger program was (unwittingly) installed on your computer through your actions. Although there are preventative steps that could have been taken you’re ‘not a computer person’ and don’t know how google works. You later claim to either not be able to afford an authenticator or not be able to get them where you live.

“Hacked” - An evil computer hacker penetrated your firewall, cracked your database and stole your account details without your knowledge or input. You were just a poor randomly targeted victim, right?

Which of the two terms is going to make you feel better about your situation? more entitled to comforting and a speedy resolution? I thought so. Granted I have known people that have messed up and been straight up about it – this rant is not about them.

This is about those deluded folks that get “hacked” and truly believe they played no part in it, the ones that work themselves into a self-righteous fervor and declare their undying hatred toward Blizzard for letting this happen to them. I once knew someone who had been “hacked” three times! He was convinced it wasnt his system and that it was Blizzard’s database being broken into. His browser? Standard IE of course.

What have your experiences been? Would love to hear from you!

Interview with QQ Premades

Folks across the Bloodlust Battlegroup will no doubt be familiar with “LFM QQ Battleground Premades: Good fun, easy honour, need vent. 80s only, cross-realm, PST for info!” appearing in their trade chats over the last few months. After having run with them and joined up with them as a member, Serephim suggested we contact the guys who run it for an interview.

I was immediately intrigued – I’d seen the messages in trade chat but had no idea how it all worked. Cross Realm Premade PvP? Not only do they manage to coordinate it all but they maintain an amazingly high win rate! Serephim and I caught up with the founder, QueueQ, and his right hand man, Zevia, to chat about their runaway success.

RNGG and RNGTards – Your stories needed!

So my ‘Guide to RNG’ is closer and closer to being in a presentable state. I’m getting quite excited about being able to finally share it with you guys.

Amongst the different topics I’m covering is ‘Common mistakes in dealing with RNG’ in which I discuss some of the more common errors people make with chance. This is stuff like “Well I’ve killed Baron Rivendare 20 times so far and no mount yet, so it should drop soon” and especially ANY QQ related to the ‘unfairness’ of RNG.

I’ve fondly termed these examples ‘RNGG’ and the folks in them ‘RNGTards’ (a play on the WoW economic term ‘freetards’). I need examples and stories of folks you’ve encountered who really don’t seem to understand or cope well with RNG.

I’ll even throw in a [Papa Hummel's Old-Fashioned Pet Biscuit] loot card for the best example!

Scarab Lord Whispers, Part 2

Some of you may recall my post back in September about all the whispers I get from having the Scarab Lord mount. Since moving to the Aman’thul realm I’ve been halfheartedly screenshotting the whispers here and there. I took a look through my screenshots folder recently and decided that there are probably enough for a part 2.

So without further ado…

Ring of Awesome

Just a quick one this time to share the latest addition to my collection of toys! This time it’s a little known ring from classic WoW – [Mark of the Dragon Lord] which is a 1-2% drop from [Overlord Wyrmthalak] in Lower Blackrock Spire.

Why is it so cool? The clickable half an hour buff it gives you has a very unique and cool looking graphic of a black orb that whirls around you. 30 min cooldown that gives a 30 min buff? Definitely a fun toy to have for around town :)

Took a while to farm, but I’m loving it – check it out:
