In Case You Missed It, #3

We’ve got a Newgrounds day for you today!

For those of you who have never been, Newgrounds is a website that used to be devoted entirely to flash artists – games, animations, that sort of thing. More recently, they’ve also added the ability for artists to upload instrumental music.

Many of the more popular games and animations and whatnot tend to find their way to Newgrounds, if not originate from there. I may actually be referencing this site relatively often for ICYMI, but here’s some for you guys to check out today:

New Free Gold Guide – Gold for Dummies

Hey Hey, well this is exciting! I’ve just finished putting the finishing touches on my new gold guide [Gold for Dummies]. I’m pretty happy with how the graphics turned out and I think the information is basic but informative so I hope people find it useful.

I decided to do something different for this as well. I’ve included a 2 minute video introduction to the guide that I hope takes some step toward breaking the ‘..but I have to read?’ dread that those-in-need often encounter with material like this.

I hope you enjoy the guide, and as always appreciate any comments, feedback and suggestions you might have!

In Case You Missed It, #2

Welcome to ICYMI 2. Let’s jump right in, shall we?

Parkour (and also Banlieue 13): Parkour is something you may have seen before, but didn’t know it was something of an organized activity with a large following. It was developed by a guy named David Belle, who served in the French firefighting response unit, but also had a lot of experience in athletics, gymnastics, and all sorts of things that basically help develop you into a goddamn ninja.

Site update in progress!

Hey Folks! Just a very short update – I’ve finally got some spare time to get stuck into some of the changes I’ve had planned for the site. I have this week off work so am relaxing and putting in a lot of hours on the redesign :)

If anyone’s going to be around much in the next few days check back regularly and let me know what you think. I’d also love to have a few guinea pigs to test out new features and the like so let me know if you’ll be around.

More to come – stay tuned!

2AM Update – Phew! The design changes have slotted in perfectly and I managed to sort out the PHP code without too much trouble. I’m pretty happy with how it’s looking and really satisfied with the new look. Tomorrow it’s on to more tweaking and some functionality stuff. Let me know what you think so far!

In Case You Missed It, #1

An idea I’ve had for a long time while contributing to Saate.net is making a regular feature called “In Case You Missed It,” where any time I think of things I’ve seen, or run into new things, that I think are interesting or at least very much worth your time, I could just make a little collection and comment on them. Well, I unfortunately haven’t been writing them all down, but here’s some to get you started:

A Very Epic Day

So earlier this week, I happened to do ICC 10 on a Tuesday night with 4 friends and 5 PuGs. We got 10/12 done in one night, and I managed to get a new iLevel 251 mace out of it for my rogue. Given the new weapon, I decided to swap over to a combat build.

Now, my rogue is currently wearing 4/5 t9, 4 pieces of 232 gear, 1 piece of 219 gear, 4 pieces of 245 gear, 2 pieces of 251 gear, 1 piece of 264 gear, and 1 piece of 226 gear. I don’t use gearscore, but I’m on a server that is obsessed with gear, so I happen to know it’s somewhere in the ballpark of 5100. I happen to have a smattering of PvP gear, as well, about 600 resilience or so. Not great, but not terrible. I don’t do arenas, and I haven’t done more than one raid with the character so far.

Now, with all that in mind, I did all this in one day, in this order:

Warcraft Word Jumble – Cassandri

This week’s jumble serves as both a shout out and congratulations to Cassandri of [HoTs & DoTs] this week.

Cassandri recently completed her insane grind and is our latest [Hall of Fame] inductee.

Also a big congratulations goes out to the other recent insane inductees – Frozzy, Elzibar, Healthstone, Zerotorescue, Eudaemonea and Kalkaph!

Gear or Buffs?

While recently researching how to properly gem my mutilate rogue, since I hadn’t played it since about December or January (and even then, it was primarily for PvP), I couldn’t find a response that didn’t involve the phrase “get a spreadsheet.

It took me about 2 hours to download, comprehend, and then get all my gear put in (since almost half of what I was wearing was not included with the gear list). I did notice, however, that there was an option to toy with raid buffs and whatnot and see how it would affect your expected DPS.

So I decided to toy around and see what would give the biggest DPS increase – better gear or raid buffs?

How dare you!

I’m honest and open when people ask me questions. I’ve got a track record of demonstrating that here in my guides and my posts each week. I always make time to talk to people in-game when I get random whispers. I always make time to listen. I enjoy the contact, I enjoy teaching, I enjoy helping. With me so far?

There’s one thing that seriously pisses me off though – when someone approaches me, asks for my advice and upon receiving it actively refutes it.

Now I freely admit to being wrong on occasion – ok once, in June of ’97 – but this is a different kettle of fish.

Imagine one day Continue reading
