Bloodsail Exalted Guide

Bloodsail Exalted Guide

Who are the Bloodsail Buccaneers?

The Bloodsail Buccaneers are a criminal organisation that operate out of Bloodsail Hold on Plunder Island. Within the currently accessible areas of the game their forces are located around the city of Booty Bay in Stranglethorn Vale. They have a small camp just outside the city and three large boats in the waters to the south that are lead by Fleet Master Firallon.

While there are two title rewards related to obtaining Friendly Reputation (Avast Ye, Admiral!) and Honored Reputation (Insane in the Membrane) there are currently no rewards for obtaining Revered or Exalted status.

The Method

The method involved in getting to exalted status with the Bloodsail Buccaneers might just be the most deceptively easy sounding process you’ll ever read. I could probably summarise this entire guide in six words – ‘Kill Guards, Kill Jazzrik, Kill Shelly’. Most people that have touched on this reputation will only have done the first part involving killing Booty Bay Bruisers for their Bloodsail Admiral title which is relatively fast compared to the rest of the grind.

From maximum hated you’ll need to kill 2,040 guards in Booty Bay to get to Honored. From there you head to Badlands and kill an NPC named [Jazzrik] a total of 4,200 times which is the meat of this grind. Jazzrik has a random respawn time that’s one of either 5 min 45 sec, 6 min 45 sec or 7 min 45 sec. If you think about the number of kills required and the respawn time you’ll see why so few people have achieved exalted.

Killing [Jazzrik] takes you to 20999/21000 Revered at which point you can kill [High Admiral "Shelly" Jorrik]or turn in [Avest Ye, Admiral!] if you still have it to get over the line to Exalted.
Jazzrik knew his martial arts training would come in handy!

WARNING: If you haven’t already read or realised – choosing to grind this reputation will result in all your steamwheedle cartel reputations dropping to hated. This means you’ll be automatically attacked when entering Booty Bay, Everlook, Gadgetzan and Ratchet. Have a think in advance about any achievements this might effect such as Loremaster or Holiday Events that might require you to enter or use these cities.

Insane in the Membrane – Reps all needed at the same time?

A hot topic since this achievement was announced has been whether you need to have Bloodsail Honored reputation at the same time as Steamwheedle Exalted reputation. People often make the mistake of petitioning a GM and asking the question. The GM responds with their assumption and the player treats it as a straight confirmation – hilarious forum arguments ensue!

You find three GM responses here, here and here that say you don’t need them at the same time. There’s also a blue post here saying the same thing. You’ll note that in the GM responses they also say its impossible to have the reps at the same time and that the blue post starts with ‘My understanding of this is…’ which supports the fact that none of them are authorities on the mechanics of reputation and achievements.

Kambiae of the Spirestone Server recorded this video on live in which despite having had all the reps at different times no achievement was awarded. My advice to you is that while you probably don’t need the reps at the same time you should still go to the extra effort of keeping your bloodsail rep. Why risk it?

Hated to Max Honored

Queue the benny hill theme music here because it’s time to head to Booty Bay. Open up your reputation tab and tick the ‘At War’ option. This will allow you to attack and kill the Booty Bay guards which is the first step towards exalted.

"This means war!", exclaimed Psychi

You then need to kill guards until you’re 11999/12000 Honored. This part actually goes a lot faster than you’d think as you kill them quite quickly. The one thing I absolutely recommend is that you bring along a tanking class. Back in January 2009 as a feral tank in Naxx gear I was able to take as many guards as spawned without losing health or being at risk of dying – I’m talking 14 guards at once no worries. Any group without a tanking class will have trouble here and have to kill them at a much slower pace.

Here’s a clip I put together showing the rough route I used to kill them. Basically you start out at the inn and work your way to the end of the wharf where the boat leaves from. Then work your way back and head down the ramp before heading back to the starting point.

Max Honored to Max Revered (The Cult of Jazzrik)

This is the crazy part. The really really crazy part. After you hit 11999/12000 Honored there are only two mobs left in the game that you can kill for reputation – they are [Jazzrik] in the Badlands and [High Admiral "Shelly" Jorrik]. Jazzrik respawns after minutes, Shelly respawns after hours, so Jazzrik it is to get to 20999/21000 Revered.

You’ll need to kill him approximately 4,200 times to get to max revered. His respawn time is randomy one of three times – 5 min 45 sec, 6 min 45 sec or 7 min 45 sec. No matter which way you look at it you’re going to be here for a long, long, long time. Off to Badlands you go:

Above the map a dusty sign read "Objects on map may appear larger than they are"

Wondering how its possible for someone to actually do this and stay sane? Me too! I caught up with a few players who have completed the grind all the way through to exalted to see what wisdom they had to share on their experiences. You can click ‘play’ in each section to listen to the interview with each of the players.

Zmorris of Skullcrusher

  • Used Picture-in-Picture display on his tv to display his computer screen so he could watch tv, movies, clean the house etc while doing the grind.
  • (PvP Realms) If you get ganked don’t fight back. You’ll have a lot of people levelling blacksmithing discover you so you might come back to the screen and find yourself dead. Just don’t fight back and don’t make a name for yourself because you’re going to be out there a long time and you dont want to draw attention to yourself.
  • Jazzrik sells a blacksmithing pattern and once in a while you’ll see low levels come by to buy it. It’s good etiquette to whisper whoever seems to be waiting there to see if they want you to wait so they can buy the pattern. I even made a level one alliance alt so I could whisper alliance players waiting to see if thats what they’re after.

Lostshard of Draenor

  • o Had a 2 computer setup and camped it on one of them while doing things on the other
  • o Used a software timer to alert him to check. The one he used is free software and available to download from http://bluefive.pair.com/
  • o Don’t get too consumed by the grind. Just do it when you can – so if you’re raiding just do it before or after when you’ve got the time and don’t take it too seriously.

Nekyr of Elune

  • Watched a lot of TV Shows on DVD
  • Did university work while WoW was minimized and tabbed back every 6-7 minutes to kill Jazzrik.
  • Take it at your own pace. Set a ‘quota’ to get done each day and anything you get beyond that is a plus. Try to combine doing it with other things.
  • At Exalted – Park a DK alt at Shelley’s loc so you dont have to travel all the way out to see if she’s up. This is an especially big time saver if you’re horde.

Max Revered to Exalted and Beyond!

Once you arrive at 20999/21000 Revered you’ll find that Jazzrik no longer gives you rep. If you’ve been patient and not turned in the [Avest Ye, Admiral!] yet then it’s good for a full 500 reputation which will take you over the line to 499/1000 Exalted. If not then [High Admiral "Shelly" Jorrik] is the only way to do it. Killing him rewards 5 reputation just like Jazzrik except he’ll continue giving reputation all the way to max exalted.

"This definitely isn't the goblin starting area", thought Shelly

The challenges here are twofold. Firstly he has a long respawn time, reportedly anywhere from 8 hours up to 40 hours so it’s difficult to know when he’s up. Secondly you’ll have noticed his strange position on the map above – that’s not a mistake. He’s actually located in a very secluded spot that few players even know exists, let alone know how to get to.

If you’re Alliance then the best way to get there is from Stormwind Docks. Drink an [Elixir of Water Walking] and ride north into the ocean following the wall until you get there. You’ll know you’re getting close when your world map shows the Dun Morough map like in the map shown above. If you’re Horde then fly to Grom’gol Base Camp and either ride along the ocean all the way or ride to the northern coast of Westfall and go from there.

Links and other resources

With such an easy to understand method for raising the reputation I’m not sure that you really need to be that well read up on this one. I think it really helps to understand how much of a grind this one is, particularly with the 4200 Jazzrik kills, before you think about embarking on it. As usual here’s a few recommended resources you can use to supplement your knowledge.

  • WowJuju Reputation Calculator – Very useful for tracking how many more guard/jazzrik/shelly kills you need to do before reaching the next level.
  • Bloodsail Buccaneers on WowWiki – Good general information on the Bloodsail. One thing I always enjoy about Wowwiki is being able to click on the names and read up on all the Lore information.
  • Bloodsail Buccaneers on WowHead – Never hurts to have a read through all the player submitted comments on Wowhead for any updates or changes.

  1. great post. glad to be apart of it.

  2. Thanks for this create guide. I was thinking the whole time how to get it exalted and a lot of people told that there is no way to get higher than 20999 revered. This is the REAL insane achievement ^^

  3. Heh, I can’t see myself going for this after doing all the work for Insane in the Membrane. The only time I may go back, lose all of my Steamwheedle Cartel reputation and then decide to try to go for Bloodsail exalted or revered is if they make an achievement for it. Great guide for those that were unaware this was even possible.

  4. Great guide and the interviews are really helpful.

  5. Saate,

Another great guide. Love your site and keep up the good work!

  6. When I have finished up wsg, this will be the last reputaiton left in the game for me. I have always said I wouldn’t do it, but the more I think about it, the more I want it :)

Great guide, the interviews are really nice

  7. Great guide, I’ve been working on Jazzrik since Zmorris told me about how High Admiral “Shelly” Jorrik was added to the game and could bump me to exalted.

You have a nice site here, and I look forward to browsing it in it’s entirety.

  8. Awesome article. I’m on Zmorris’s server also, he’s server first Insane, and server-only bloodsail exalted. I just completed my Insane achiev the other night, will mail you screenshots and stuff if you want.
Again, love the guides, this one was put together very well.

  9. We got a good amount of Insane’s on Skullcrusher :) I try to keep track of them all on zmorris.com but I don’t think I have met you Awfulrofl – please submit a screenshot of your Insane awesomeness through my site so I can add you to our “club”

  10. This should be an achievement, that rewards the title “the Exiled”

  11. I agree there should be a FoS involved with it

  12. I have been grinding this guy for a while now. This is also a great time too work on your pvp rep faction grind too, you can que bgs from anywhere. Every time I pop out of a bg I kill him and jump into next bg.

  13. Great guide saate, again^^

Killing Jazzriki and “Shelly” will it make u SC rep fall?

Also this is the next thing im gonna do after “The Insane”

  14. Nice guids, will work on this soon, in about a month i will be done with frostburn and explorers league and have all the mounts from Argent Crusaide. then my next goal is to get wsg and ab reps up and will just sign from badlands and kill this dude everytime i get out of an bg.

“His respawn time is randomy one of three times – 5 min 45 sec, 6 min 45 sec or 7 min 45 sec.”

Ive had him spawn at other times than ‘x min 45 sec’ and also after 8 minutes, so…

Btw; if you have Steamwheedle exalted already and decide to get Bloodsail Buccaneers to exalted, you can later just farm pirates in Tanaris and outside Ratchet to fast gain Steamwheedle reputation again, instead of getting rep in Dire Maul. You dont need librams or PBDs anymore anyway.

  16. SoapflakesHaomarushEU

(7286/21000) 34,7% atm. 2743 more kills to go! The rep buff you could get during the Pilgrim’s Bounty event helped a bit! :p

  17. Been here about 3 months now and 20185/21k rep atm. Haven’t returned Avast Ye, Admiral quest, because it helps a lot the final 999 pain :)

  18. Question,

If one is trying to do all the 1-60 Azeroth quests/achievements (ideally, before Cataclysm comes out and everything changes.), should one complete all the booty bay quests (For loremaster) FIRST as to avoid losing the Bloodsail reputation? It sounds like it might make the grind longer, but necessary in the long run to get all the achievements.

    Any input is appreciated.

    • Yeah getting the Booty Bay specific quests out of the way is always a good idea. Up until Max Honored it’s not going to make that much of a difference time-wise to you if you accidently complete a Booty Bay quest. Throughout revered though you’re grinding for 5 rep every 6-8 minutes, if you accidently lose 50-150 rep at that point it’s an annoying amount of time lost.

  19. I want to know what movie recording mod that guy is using in the latest video you posted that records in .mov format. I don’t like fraps.

  20. Why does this guide involve going all the way to Exalted, when only Honored is required to get the achievement?

    • It’d be a bit boring if it was only to Honored eh? :)

Step 1 – Kill Booty Bay Guards
      Step 2 – Refer to Step 1

      :p

  22. Ah 3am, and im now 10500/21000 :) but i have startet to wonder, will there be new goblin quests in catalyst, that will waste my bloodsail rep?, i relly dont hope blizzard destrys this one specal thing.

I just got frostburn and explorers league exaltet a week before thay put that rep into heroics so all got the rep in a week, and i spend 3 month on it :(

  23. What i wonder is.
Do ya lose rep with Booty Bay if ya kill Jazz?
Also wonder can you get into trouble using this (cheat) game mechnic?

  24. Can you do some more classic Wow Rep guides. They are great.

  25. done btw on the first of 2010

  26. True insane :) much respect from kémp/dlu

  27. Hello!
Thank you for all the guides, it’s been really helpful for me, I did insane in 3,5 months (finished 11/29/2009) :)

Now I’m at Jazzrik (549 and farming as I write this) and I wonder if there is a way to use _npcscan or SilverDragon to hear some sound whenever he is spawning?

    The for all the clues!

    • Congrats on the title! Make sure to email me through a screenshot to add into the hall of fame :) I would probably advise against using a mod to track Jazzrik’s spawns since its always in a reasonably close window. Instead I’d just suggest using some kind of software timer or even your mobile phone’s alarm to beep every 6-7 minutes so you can come back and kill him.

  28. I’m Exalted with the Bloodsail Buccaneers as well and aiming for 999/1000, as Horde I actually also go via the Stormwind docks.
I just teleport to Stonard, ride to Stormwind, climb up the wall, buff myself up with Shields and Slow Fall and jump straight into Stormwind and ride to the Docks where I use a Waterwalking Potion to get to High Admiral “Shelly” Jorrik.
To check if he’s up I made a Lv1 Human and walked/swam all the way over to his spawn point. I just relog for a sec to check if he’s up or not. ^^

  29. Have anyone tried to undo quest for Bloodssail hat, asked GM to enable it again or something, since its only thing preventing me from farming Bloodsail exalted. I wasnt carefull and i delivered it already.
Beside that i maxxed every other rep, even did insane on alt( took me 2-3 weeks per insane).
    Tempting to ask gm :)

  30. @Kemp – Just kill Shelly once to tip over into Exalted :) Definitely will take longer to max it out without the quest rep but I doubt they’ll reverse it for you.

  31. @Kemp – You did the insane in 2-3 weeks? Oh my god. It took me months. >< You really are hardcore. :)

  32. @Nephora
I played like 15hours per day on 2 accounts, idea was to buy everything what is possible to buy, i even hired ppl to farm for me(junkboxes mostly)
I handled librams while in diremaul, got diamonds through ah, since i camped it and spammed trade(both horde and alliance)
Tip for darkmoon – check who puts cards on ah, dont hessitate to ask them to sell you off ah, i had succes with few ppl, they had tons of cards in stack, so i bought all cheeper :)
Back to the topic, found 1 farming bloodsail, so i guess ill have to wait untill he finish :(

  33. Exellent post

  34. FYI: if you are in a group and one person kills Jazzrik, then everyone in the group gets the 5 Bloodsail rep (and goblin demerits). If a party member is in another location this may not apply, but if one or more of your faction is camping Jazzrik you can group and share the workload. Kinda nice if you have to be AFK for a few minutes.

I can’t imagine what it must have been like when Jazzrik only gave up 1 faction point per kill… /shudder

  35. Has anyone else noticed since 3.3.3 The high admiral now spawns every single day, now its easier to get 999/1000 then ever!

Coincidentally a mage who I was sharing jazzrik with also hit exalted a day or two before this change, we keep a lvl 30 warlock out there with two lvl ones and summon ourselves there daily.

  36. I apologize for my previous post, I was silly to think that they changed his re spawn rate it. It was actually from all of the server resets that came along with the patch the High Admiral re spawns after every reset.

  37. I started farming this yesterday and im soon at 1000/21k
Im doing 16 hour camping days almost every day now.
    Its so awesome and fun.
Hopefully i can get done intil cataclysm.
HOpe they will not remove the npc then.
Og the Npc out at sea, for the max exalted grind.

  38. I noticed a screenshot of Badlands in cata, I think its safe to safe Jazzrik’s camp will be destroyed.

    http://static.mmo-champion.com/mmoc/images/news/2010/may/catazones/badlands_01.jpg

  39. Like to add a couple things. I just completed this grind on my DK alt “Informant” – When I originally did this grind it was just me out there solo – This time around I had a member of the opposite faction (Hi Shummy!) grinding this as well as someone of my own faction (Hi Yacoub!) – Luckily they both read this guide already and were doing it the polite way (not ganking each other) – We all set up a grinding schedule – Yacoub would get early morning, Shummy would get afternoon, and I got all overnight.

In the event that Yacoub wanted to grind the same time as me and I was in the middle of not paying attention while killing Jazzrik, or vice versa, it was very helpful to install an auto-accept addon to auto accept player invites to groups so you can share rep on kills.

    • Hi Zmorris! I finished my Jazzrik grind a few days after Informant. Setting up a schedule when dealing with the opposite faction is definitely the way to go.

  40. I’ve been farming this off and on with a shaman on my server, we group up and whoever sees him spawn kills him. Currently I’m at about 7000/21000 so it’s a while away

  41. Im at 13954/21k atm.
So far its been one epix journey.
Not to many weeks intil im done.
working with another alliance and we farm him
almost all the time 16 hours aday or so when not at work. Cant wait to start max exalted grind also.
Also been faction changing alot to farm with a horde that also farms it with us.
This is one of the most awesome rep grinds ever tbh.
Still my favorit is the dire maul runs for Steam cartel.

    Starwarsftw Mage Kazzak EU.

  42. Been farming this one with the above posted Starwarsftw. After taking a LONG break from this, I finally got back to it with a couple others which breaks the boredom. So I just have 2 points to all you out there doing this. First off, grind it with others and if there is Horde doing it, workout a timetable so you can maximize your time. Second, grab JazzrikAware from http://www.enginecoding.com/Downloads.php I will play the Level-Up ding each time he spawns, I just have my WoW in windowed mode behind my other stuff I’m doing, and each time hes there, I just tab to it, hit my target/kill macro button, and tab out. As stated, you need target frames up for this to work, and it wont kill him for you, just let you know when he spawns. Priceless…..

  43. Lostshard no longer updates his thread so I decided to make a new one to keep it going.

Jeckt, thanks for the thread! Was neat to come back to the game and see people are tracking this craziness.

  45. I just got exalted with the Bloodsail Buccaneers this morning. I was planning on going to full exalted, but just now I heard that they are adding easier ways to get to exalted in Cataclysm. This is indeed very annoying, the Jazzrik grind is a long one and I believe those of us who did it should be rewarded in some way instead of having our efforts thrown away by having new, easy ways to get exalted added to the game. =/

  46. I started this grind about a week ago and I’m already at 5500/21000. I’m doing it with 3 other hordies who are as insane as I am. We’re working in shifts. I currently have vacation so I’m able to farm him at night while watching movies, browsing the Internet or playing other games on my TV which is connected to my computer http://img843.imageshack.us/img843/7222/45986297.jpg. WoW’s running on my monitor, so all I do is click a button on my mouse that is bound to a

    /tar Jazzrik
    /stopmacro [dead, noexists]
    /cast (spell)

macro whenever I see Jazzrik’s big green nameplate spawn in my peripheral vision.
When one shift ends and another person takes over, the other one gets himself low lvl creature (e.g. a lion or even Rigglefuzz) and hides himself between the rocks on the hill north-west of the camp. While you’re infight, you don’t get disconnected after 30 minutes. It’s 100% legal and safe. This way you can quietly sleep and get reputation 24/7 (If you don’t like white noise and can’t sleep with it, minimize WoW and turn down your fans manually with speedfan http://www.almico.com/speedfan.php). We all got each other’s cell numbers, so if one person gets a disconnect for some reason we can call and wake him up. Depending on which class you play, you’ll have to look out that you don’t get killed by the lvl 35-40 mobs. As a warrior I regenerate health whenever I get CC’d or receive a critical hit, so the group of patrolling ogres is perfect for me. Hunters have spirit bond, any other class will either need a heal every 30minutes or wear its entire gear, which can be pricey because getting hit for hours destroys your entire armor.

Another useful thing is JazzrikAware http://www.enginecoding.com/Downloads.php , an addon that plays a GONG sound when Jazzrik spawns. Unfortunately it only works for me sometimes and randomly disconnects me (even with default nameplates) every time Jazzrik spawns.
With or without this addon, you shouldn’t look at your screen for more than 2 seconds between each spawn.

I don’t certainly know if Jazzrik will still be around in Cataclysm, but I’m not very optimistic about that. If you consider doing this grind, don’t take any chances and start RIGHT NOW. Also, I don’t think Blizzard will make all the effort obsolete by adding Bloodsail dailies, it’s a horrible thought though.

    Hope any of this helped

  47. First of all this is _the_ best site about the Insane /”truely” Insane stuff in Wow ^^

and off to my question … Anyone here tried to kill Jazzrik on PTR. Does he still give rep or has it been removed. Background Downloader woke up this morning and well, you never know when 4.0.1 will hit. All can guess my frustration :/

  48. With regard to needing all the reps at the same time, I would like to share that I did NOT. The first time I went to grind out Bloodsail for Insane, I accidentally only went to friendly. After finishing everything else I realized what I had done and ground it out again. With all 4 goblins at -36000 hated, I received my achievement.

    http://www.wowarmory.com/character-sheet.xml?r=Kil‘jaeden&cn=Bitrayahl&gn=Midnight

You can see that I got the FoS today (9/17/10) and my goblin reps are all at Hated. I know that its not concrete evidence for everyone, but its the best I got. Thanks for the guides Saate!
