Bloodsail Exalted Guide

Bloodsail Exalted Guide

Who are the Bloodsail Buccaneers?

The Bloodsail Buccaneers are a criminal organisation that operate out of Bloodsail Hold on Plunder Island. Within the currently accessible areas of the game their forces are located around the city of Booty Bay in Stranglethorn Vale. They have a small camp just outside the city and three large boats in the waters to the south that are lead by Fleet Master Firallon.

While there are two title rewards related to obtaining Friendly Reputation (Avast Ye, Admiral!) and Honored Reputation (Insane in the Membrane) there are currently no rewards for obtaining Revered or Exalted status.

The Method

The method involved in getting to exalted status with the Bloodsail Buccaneers might just be the most deceptively easy sounding process you’ll ever read. I could probably summarise this entire guide in six words – ‘Kill Guards, Kill Jazzrik, Kill Shelly’. Most people that have touched on this reputation will only have done the first part involving killing Booty Bay Bruisers for their Bloodsail Admiral title which is relatively fast compared to the rest of the grind.

From maximum hated you’ll need to kill 2,040 guards in Booty Bay to get to Honored. From there you head to Badlands and kill an NPC named [Jazzrik] a total of 4,200 times which is the meat of this grind. Jazzrik has a random respawn time that’s one of either 5 min 45 sec, 6 min 45 sec or 7 min 45 sec. If you think about the number of kills required and the respawn time you’ll see why so few people have achieved exalted.

Killing [Jazzrik] takes you to 20999/21000 Revered at which point you can kill [High Admiral "Shelly" Jorrik]or turn in [Avest Ye, Admiral!] if you still have it to get over the line to Exalted.
Jazzrik knew his martial arts training would come in handy!

WARNING: If you haven’t already read or realised – choosing to grind this reputation will result in all your steamwheedle cartel reputations dropping to hated. This means you’ll be automatically attacked when entering Booty Bay, Everlook, Gadgetzan and Ratchet. Have a think in advance about any achievements this might effect such as Loremaster or Holiday Events that might require you to enter or use these cities.

Insane in the Membrane – Reps all needed at the same time?

A hot topic since this achievement was announced has been whether you need to have Bloodsail Honored reputation at the same time as Steamwheedle Exalted reputation. People often make the mistake of petitioning a GM and asking the question. The GM responds with their assumption and the player treats it as a straight confirmation – hilarious forum arguments ensue!

You find three GM responses here, here and here that say you don’t need them at the same time. There’s also a blue post here saying the same thing. You’ll note that in the GM responses they also say its impossible to have the reps at the same time and that the blue post starts with ‘My understanding of this is…’ which supports the fact that none of them are authorities on the mechanics of reputation and achievements.

Kambiae of the Spirestone Server recorded this video on live in which despite having had all the reps at different times no achievement was awarded. My advice to you is that while you probably don’t need the reps at the same time you should still go to the extra effort of keeping your bloodsail rep. Why risk it?

Hated to Max Honored

Queue the benny hill theme music here because it’s time to head to Booty Bay. Open up your reputation tab and tick the ‘At War’ option. This will allow you to attack and kill the Booty Bay guards which is the first step towards exalted.

"This means war!", exclaimed Psychi

You then need to kill guards until you’re 11999/12000 Honored. This part actually goes a lot faster than you’d think as you kill them quite quickly. The one thing I absolutely recommend is that you bring along a tanking class. Back in January 2009 as a feral tank in Naxx gear I was able to take as many guards as spawned without losing health or being at risk of dying – I’m talking 14 guards at once no worries. Any group without a tanking class will have trouble here and have to kill them at a much slower pace.

Here’s a clip I put together showing the rough route I used to kill them. Basically you start out at the inn and work your way to the end of the wharf where the boat leaves from. Then work your way back and head down the ramp before heading back to the starting point.

Max Honored to Max Revered (The Cult of Jazzrik)

This is the crazy part. The really really crazy part. After you hit 11999/12000 Honored there are only two mobs left in the game that you can kill for reputation – they are [Jazzrik] in the Badlands and [High Admiral "Shelly" Jorrik]. Jazzrik respawns after minutes, Shelly respawns after hours, so Jazzrik it is to get to 20999/21000 Revered.

You’ll need to kill him approximately 4,200 times to get to max revered. His respawn time is randomy one of three times – 5 min 45 sec, 6 min 45 sec or 7 min 45 sec. No matter which way you look at it you’re going to be here for a long, long, long time. Off to Badlands you go:

Above the map a dusty sign read "Objects on map may appear larger than they are"

Wondering how its possible for someone to actually do this and stay sane? Me too! I caught up with a few players who have completed the grind all the way through to exalted to see what wisdom they had to share on their experiences. You can click ‘play’ in each section to listen to the interview with each of the players.

Zmorris of Skullcrusher

  • Used Picture-in-Picture display on his tv to display his computer screen so he could watch tv, movies, clean the house etc while doing the grind.
  • (PvP Realms) If you get ganked don’t fight back. You’ll have a lot of people levelling blacksmithing discover you so you might come back to the screen and find yourself dead. Just don’t fight back and don’t make a name for yourself because you’re going to be out there a long time and you dont want to draw attention to yourself.
  • Jazzrik sells a blacksmithing pattern and once in a while you’ll see low levels come by to buy it. It’s good etiquette to whisper whoever seems to be waiting there to see if they want you to wait so they can buy the pattern. I even made a level one alliance alt so I could whisper alliance players waiting to see if thats what they’re after.

Lostshard of Draenor

  • o Had a 2 computer setup and camped it on one of them while doing things on the other
  • o Used a software timer to alert him to check. The one he used is free software and available to download from http://bluefive.pair.com/
  • o Don’t get too consumed by the grind. Just do it when you can – so if you’re raiding just do it before or after when you’ve got the time and don’t take it too seriously.

Nekyr of Elune

  • Watched a lot of TV Shows on DVD
  • Did university work while WoW was minimized and tabbed back every 6-7 minutes to kill Jazzrik.
  • Take it at your own pace. Set a ‘quota’ to get done each day and anything you get beyond that is a plus. Try to combine doing it with other things.
  • At Exalted – Park a DK alt at Shelley’s loc so you dont have to travel all the way out to see if she’s up. This is an especially big time saver if you’re horde.

Max Revered to Exalted and Beyond!

Once you arrive at 20999/21000 Revered you’ll find that Jazzrik no longer gives you rep. If you’ve been patient and not turned in the [Avest Ye, Admiral!] yet then it’s good for a full 500 reputation which will take you over the line to 499/1000 Exalted. If not then [High Admiral "Shelly" Jorrik] is the only way to do it. Killing him rewards 5 reputation just like Jazzrik except he’ll continue giving reputation all the way to max exalted.

"This definitely isn't the goblin starting area", thought Shelly

The challenges here are twofold. Firstly he has a long respawn time, reportedly anywhere from 8 hours up to 40 hours so it’s difficult to know when he’s up. Secondly you’ll have noticed his strange position on the map above – that’s not a mistake. He’s actually located in a very secluded spot that few players even know exists, let alone know how to get to.

If you’re Alliance then the best way to get there is from Stormwind Docks. Drink an [Elixir of Water Walking] and ride north into the ocean following the wall until you get there. You’ll know you’re getting close when your world map shows the Dun Morough map like in the map shown above. If you’re Horde then fly to Grom’gol Base Camp and either ride along the ocean all the way or ride to the northern coast of Westfall and go from there.

Links and other resources

With such an easy to understand method for raising the reputation I’m not sure that you really need to be that well read up on this one. I think it really helps to understand how much of a grind this one is, particularly with the 4200 Jazzrik kills, before you think about embarking on it. As usual here’s a few recommended resources you can use to supplement your knowledge.

  • WowJuju Reputation Calculator – Very useful for tracking how many more guard/jazzrik/shelly kills you need to do before reaching the next level.
  • Bloodsail Buccaneers on WowWiki – Good general information on the Bloodsail. One thing I always enjoy about Wowwiki is being able to click on the names and read up on all the Lore information.
  • Bloodsail Buccaneers on WowHead – Never hurts to have a read through all the player submitted comments on Wowhead for any updates or changes.

  1. Funny that nobody has brought it up before but … Bloodsail Buccaneers exalted is/is called the most insane rep attempt ingame.
Am soon done with that, which is good. But I’ve noticed that I can easily gather roughly 2600rep/week.

So it made me think .. doesnt that mean bloodsail exalted is actually easier than hydraxian waterlords? Where as revered to exalted is only doable by killing bosses in MC. That gives roughly 1300rep/week.

Its a bit late to talk about that thou .. cata coming and all, but for me that actually made the grind easier ^^

  2. Well it’s true Bloodsail is technically ‘easier’ because you aren’t limited by raid saves and can thus farm reputation infintely, or at least as much as spawn timers allow. ^^

  3. In other news, I finally did it. =D
I’m officially 999/1000 Exalted with the Bloodsail Buccaneers, Booty Bay, Ratchet, Everlook and Gadgetzan.

  4. Finally, after all these weeks…

[22:01:32]You are now Exalted with Bloodsail Buccaneers.

4/999 now. I’m still considering whether I should go to this horribly remote Jorrik spawn-point every day or not.

I got the addon working shortly after I made my last post here, so I didn’t have to do anything but click my assigned mouse-button every-time I heard the gong.

This grind was a great opportunity to do a lot of school stuff, play other games and watch all the movies and TV series I missed over the last years, while still being “productive” in WoW.

I would also greatly appreciate it if someone could add me to the Bloodsail exalted club thread since I’m unable to post in the US forums.

  5. Saate – do we have anyone on beta that could confirm if Jazzrik/Jorrik are still around, killable and give rep? Because if they are… Bloodsail might not be as dead as we’re all assuming for Cataclysm.

    Just a thought… :p

  6. i checked for jorrik he is still there, sitting at 813/1000 right now i knew i would not get it done before cata so i asked a guilde that was on beta

  7. As some of you might’ve heard, the Jazzrik grind will come obsolete as soon as Cataclysm hits. You’ll be able to grind guards all the way up to exalted.

    >Bloodsail Buccaneer faction reputation will remain in-game. Also, to ensure that this change does not negatively affect Cataclysm quest progression in Stranglethorn Vale, Booty Bay Bruisers will now provide reputation up through Exalted.

The ~200 people around the world who did the grind will NOT get any reward for spending months of their playtime to farm the hardest reputation in the game.

Although this is a heartless and cruel move from Blizzard, there’s not much we can do. What has once taken months to complete will be doable with a 5 man group in 2 hours by grinding Booty Bay guards.

If you want to try anyways and fight for justice, rage or just express your opinion, you can find the official Bloodsail Buccaneers exalted club (EU) thread here (US 404′d)

  9. This guide is now obsolete for the best way to grind Bloodsail faction. Now booty bay guards do provide faction all the way up through 999/999 exhalted. Problem is they are level 85 with a truck of hit points therefor are not very good for grinding. However, in Faldir’s Cove in Arathi Highlands there is now a ship that has some guys (about 10) that will give 5 or 25 rep depending. (like 7 are not named and give 5, then there is one named that gives 5 rep all on like a 30 second respawn timer, then there are 2 mobs that give 25 rep per kill but only spawn every 2 minutes). So this area is by far the best place to grind this rep as they are only level 27-40.

    • Yeah, the Booty Bay guards giving rep through exalted lasted all of a day before they hotfixed it back. There is no known reason why other than the fact that they don’t like people killing guards.

So now the best thing to possibly do is all of the Southern STV quests and then grind your Bloodsail faction at Faldir’s Cove in Arathi. This will take you all the way to 11999 honored but no further. You can then do the few bloodsail quests to get to about 500/21000 revered with bloodsail.

  10. Have been looking into grinding guards at bb and have been reading a few things saying there are not providing rep into revered / exalted, can anyone confirm?

Also heard the mobs at Faldir’s don’t give rep through revered either. Seems like the alternative is Shelley Jorrik if that’s the case :(

    • Nephora - Bloodscalp

I am exalted with the Bloodsail Buccaneers and the cartel, and can confirm as of today that the guards in Booty Bay DO NOT give Bloodsail rep right now, despite the recent patch notes. Bloodsail Exalted Admirals rejoice!

  11. BBB now award rep into revered as of 4.1 making this guide obsolete…

This page and Saates Massive Obsessions are what actually finally convinced me to suck it up and sit in badlands for two months.

Once again for a list of people who did this grind pre 4.0 the way the guide explains it

    http://us.battle.net/wow/en/forum/topic/1020863950

  12. As of 4.2, yes, BBB do award rep into revered, but this guide was obsolete in 4.0 with the release of cataclysm, when Jazzrik was removed from the game. For those who obtained exalted prior to cataclysm, kudos to you. However, you can’t say that bruisers shouldn’t give rep above honored, as that would essentially make earning exalted impossible in the current state of the game. Either Jazzrik would have to come back, or Jorrik’s spawn timer would have to be reduced to that of Jazzrik’s, which I’d be all for either way.

With a spawn timer of even 8 hours (which, most reports put Jorrik’s spawn timer at 24/48), it would literally take years of killing him every time he was up to get exalted. So, the only way to make the faction accessible at all at this point is to increase the rep cap on bruisers to revered.

Instead of having a thread asking to lower the rep cap for Bruisers, someone who is sincerely die-hard about keeping this faction in the game, yet as difficult as before, should be asking for Jazzrik to be readded or Jorrik’s spawn timer to be lowered.
