Psychi and Vaughn the Insane – Well done guys!

Well well well! Just had to post to congratulate two new members of the [Insane in the Membrane] club. They are [Psychi] from the Blackwater Raiders realm and [Vaughn] from my very own Shadowsong realm.

Well done guys! They’ve both sent in screenshots of their swanky new titles so check them out:

Got a screenshot of your new insane title? Send it through to me and I’ll add it to my Insane in the Membrane hall of fame!

Darkmoon Faire Exalted Guide

Stayed up until 4am this morning putting the finishing touches on my latest guide – Darkmoon Faire Exalted! Since the method is pretty simplistic (ie buy 120 decks, k go!) I’ve gone into a fair bit of depth as far as collecting decks goes. I’ve even made a video guide sharing my auction house routine and tips for putting together the epic decks cheaply. You’ll even get to make fun of my Aussie accent since I walk you through the video – now that’s gotta be worth a watch amirite? :p

So here it is – my guide to the Darkmoon Faire:

Darkmoon Faire Guide

That’s Insane complete! What should I work on next?

Insanity at last!

So after a much longer than expected patch and a day of server crashes, we managed to finally login and receive our titles. Feels great to have finally achieved what is at the moment a pretty special rep title!

Thanks for all the support and encouragement along the way!

Saate and Serephim

Insane in the Membrane – Complete!

What else can I say but woohoo, as soon as the next patch hits I’ll get to show off my new “Saate the Insane” title.

Late last night after the Darkmoon Faire finished setting up in Mulgore I took a trip out and underwent the arduous process of turning in 59 epic decks. Amusingly I ended up having 28 x [Chaos Deck] to turn in thanks to Ketch trading me some of his for my other epic decks. See, if you’re an enchanter the chaos and other level 80 decks all disenchant into an [Abyss Crystal]. This means that if you’ve just spent 200g on a chaos deck, you’ll actually get back about 90g (or whatever the crystals are going for) after also getting the rep!

If you know anyone else buying up decks for the achievement, it could definately pay for you to find out what their professions are and arrange some kind of deck-trading system if they’re not an enchanter. It makes no difference to them, since they’ll just be vendoring the decks for 10g anyway.

My Ravenholdt guide is coming along swimmingly! I’ve finished and uploaded two videos showing the different routes I used (BRD and Tyr’s Hand) and have made a good start on the content, just need to work on some of the graphics that I’m using and write a bit more and it should be done. A few more days I’d guess!

Insane in the Membrane – Progress Update

With five days left until the next Darkmoon Faire arrives my reputations are shaping up:

Current Reputations

I have just 21,000 reputation left to grind to get exalted with the Darkmoon Faire and complete the achievement, not too bad! Fortunately I’ve been buying, building and collecting cards over the last month so I’ve built up a decent stock. The best thing about buying cards and decks over a larger period of time is that it doesnt ‘feel’ like its actually cost me that much at all.

I’ve been buying up all the cheap single cards and sending them to a bank alt, then I arrange them in different tabs from left to right in card order (Ace -> 8 ) so while I’m checking the auction house with Saate I can quickly open my Bank Items mod and easily see what cards I need to buy – here’s my single cards setup:

Single Cards

…and here’s the collection of decks I have, 13 of those are chaos decks which disenchant into an [Abyss Crystal] (woohoo!) which means I get back about 90g per deck on those ones.

Counting the low level inscription decks I’ve yet to turn in, and the decks I acquired today, I’m about 15 decks short of my goal. So close! I’m pretty confident that I’ll be able to get the decks in time, and I’ve got the gold to buy them, so another few days and I’ll be there – pretty exciting eh?

Dire Maul Fun – Any Challengers?

So I’ve been playing with Sony Vegas a little bit more, and I’m getting the hang of putting together videos and stuff to share with you guys. I plan to upload a few more in future to share the methods I used for various parts of ‘Insane in the Membrane’ farming. Stuff like the best places to pickpocket heavy junkboxes for Ravenholdt rep, and more ratchet/dm steamwheedle rep farming.

I don’t normally pull like this doing my runs, I just happened to be close to reaching the five instances/hour cap and had a few minutes to kill so I thought I’d see what I could do. I’m very curious to find out if any other classes can beat this, I suspect possibly a Paladin would be the only real competition out there but I’m not sure they could put out enough DPS to take them down fast enough. Ah well, prove me wrong!

Steamwheedle Cartel – Max Hated to Exalted in 6 days!

Actually, technically it was “Exalted to Max Hated to Exalted” in 6 days! Last weekend after Lostshard posted the results of his reputation testing on the PTR. This proved that you need to have all the reputations at the same time to achieve the [Insane in the Membrane] achievement.

Knot Thimblejack and Baron Longshore
After making the agonising decision to trash my Exalted Steamwheedle Cartel reps I set out for Booty Bay along with what we’ve come to refer to as our ‘Achievement Super Group’ – Fortissimo, Penfold and Serephim.

After hitting 11999/12000 Honored with the Bloodsail Buccaneers we all went and killed Jazzrik in the Badlands once to tip the rep over into Revered. Then it was on to the odious task of clawing back the Steamwheedle Cartel rep, this time all the way from 0/36000 Hated!

Since there were a number of us doing the grind this time, we decided to group up and head out to the Pirates just south of Ratchet in the Barrens. We pretty quickly discovered that as long as we were grouped, we would all get the rep increases even if the others were just on /follow. This meant that with four people taking turns killing the pirates, we’d only have to each spend a quarter of the time killing while still gaining 100% of the reputation. Over the next few days we were joined by Aider, Sieger and Talifey (you guys rock!) at different stages which helped further spread the work around.

After capping out at 11999/12000 Honored with Ratchet I decided to hit Dire Maul during the hours the group was away or doing other things. I wanted to keep the rep moving, and I still needed cash for Darkmoon Faire cards – the rep came fast and, as you can see in my last post, so did the gold! I actually ended up getting another [Orb of Deception] the next day as well as 3 x [Pattern: Shifting Cloak]. Pretty crazy eh?

All I have left to do now is finish out Darkmoon Faire and I’ll be all set up to get my “the Insane” title when 3.1 comes out!

More updates to come in the next few days :)

Not bad for few hours in the ‘Maul

So after taking a break from killing pirates in The Barrens for steamwheedle rep, I decided to spend a few more hours in Dire Maul doing some [Free Knot!] key runs. Now, some people that have commenced the [Insane in the Membrane] grind have a pretty negative few of Dire Maul runs since they take longer for rep than simply killing barrens/tanaris pirates.

Based on my recent experiences re-doing the steamwheedle exalted grind all the way from 0/36000 Hated I have to agree that for sheer speed the pirates are definitely a lot faster. This is especially the case when you’ve got a team of people to work with so you can each take turns killing while the rest /follow. Less effort, faster rep, pretty hard to argue with eh?

If you’re not already exalted with Shen’dralar, though, then mixing it up with some Dire Maul runs can save you a lot of cash. Even if you ARE already exalted the libram drops you get in the zone are selling for 50g/each on my server which isnt bad. I’m currently in a position where I need to make sure I have steady gold coming in so I can afford enough Darkmoon Faire decks to get exalted sooner rather than later – which brings me back to today’s fantastic grinding session!

In about three hours worth of running Dire Maul I came out with:

1 x Forors Compendium of Dragonslaying
1 x Orb of Deception
1 x Eaglehorn Longbow
1 x Earthborn Kilt
1 x Plans: Dawnbringer Shoulders
1 x Seven of Beasts
3 x Libram of Protection
2 x Libram of Focus
2 x Libram of Rapidity
18 x Greater Eternal Essence
23 x Stacks Runecloth
78 x Illusion Dust

I didnt keep track of how much gold I made from looting the mobs and selling the junk items and BOP blues that dropped, but that would have been a fair amount too. I got lucky and bagged the arena rare twice while I was there, which accounts for all the blues. So as you can see, while its not as fast as pirates its a hell of a lot more profitable!

I’ve recorded some of the pull techniques I use and with any luck should have them put together in a video to share with you in the next few days.
