Secrets, Easter Eggs and Rare Stuff!
One of the things that I’ve always loved about Warcraft is that over the years I’ve been constantly surprised by hidden little easter eggs, features, flavour text and references squirreled away in hard to find places.
How much do I love hidden stuff? As WOTLK launched I caught wind of the [Higher Learning] achievement and made sure I was the first on my server to have my shiny new pet just a few days into the expansion. It wasnt really because I thought it was an uber or elite thing to do but because it was a sufficiently different thing to do.
If you’ve ever armoried me or have read my posts in the past you might have an inkling for how much I like these unusual things. I love discovering obscure rare items, quests and locations and setting out after them. Stuff like [Lasitor] (Firefly Reference, Amazingly rare), Nat Pagle’s Fish Terminator (I’m a long term Nat Pagle fanatic!) and [Circle of Flame] (1% drop rate, cool unique model for cloth/leather wearers) really interest me.
What rare and hidden stuff is on the top of your list? Be it Sawbones Shirt, the South Seas Islands or just an out of the way cave I’d love to hear from you!
Oh, and I have to share – I finally caught the rare [Minigob Manabonk] and got him to sheep me. It gets you a single use wand that can be used to sheep another player in Dalaran. Oh the mischief (read: griefing!) to be had with that one :p

Top of my rare things must be the Teebu’s blazing longsword, I was lucky enough to pick it up on AH a couple of years back for 150 gold, first and only one I’ve seen, ever! :) It’s one of those things that are so rare that most people have no idea how rare it is.

I have been “lucky” enough to be sheeped by that little gnome twice. Once was in the sewers of Dalaran at the mailbox. I turned around to see a strange gnome looking at me, then *poof*! Baa baa. Second time was in one of the banks. He chose me, not sure why. I have only one of the wands, as they are unique equipped. I am waiting for a very VERY special time to use it.
And thanks to Lenniz for the name of Teebu’s sword…I have been trying to figure out the red light saber for a while now.
I also am going to hunt for the sawbones shirt and some of the other items you mentioned, esp the fish terminator. But, as a girl, I am also looking for the warrior’s embrace plate chest item. Mostly as a joke. http://www.wowhead.com/?item=10845
Some of the items I want the most are quest items I tossed aside/vendored/de’d before I realized their importance. The Sharp Kitchen Knife from westfall is one of those. I was fortunate enough (or stubborn enough) to get one reinstated from a GM so I can be a better cook in WoW. :P
A cool place I’ve been to is the islands south of Tanaris. I did it on my shaman with water walking, and I don’t think you can get there without it. Nothing special there but it’s still pretty out of the way and cool :)
NoMans Landing? Was between SW and IF??? on the coast, you could swim to it from Westfall going north. Nothing there really but creepy vibe. 1 empty house, blood broken stuff….something bad happened there. Havent been there since 02/08 so dont know if it’s still there but you should abandon all your characters there, thats where mine will go to die when that time comes
@Bumbl3b33 – They originally were called ‘GM Island’ and werent supposed to be accessible but in late Vanilla became part of the AQ40 gate quest. You get a buff from a Naga that makes you swim at 500% speed or something so its easy to get there. Pretty cool place :)
@Meantime – I think NoMans Landing now actually has an npc spawn there, High Admiral “Shelly” Jorrik is the NPC. Check it on wowhead, is that the spot?
Yes thats the place havent been there since they added the NPC will have to pay him a visit. Thanks for the heads up.
And a reminder to all Allies once Cat hits and Ashenvale goes Horde I’m guessing you wont be able to get Dartol’s Rod of Transformation anymore so hurry.
I got the Sawbones Shirt one day while farming Scholomance ages ago for AD rep. Needless to say I’ve worn it since and I doubt I’ll ever replace it with another. A few days later my friend (who also happened to be in that Scholomance run) got his Master Builder’s shirt, so it all worked out.
lol i didnt know sawbones shirt was that special. i still have in the bank but my trademark is Deckhand’s shirt. i finally got manabonked on my mage but it seems like everytime i do i’m half-asleep or afk, i just know that i have because of the letter in the mail!
