Photoshop – The Shifter

Have been working on a few things in Photoshop lately and put this together over the weekend. It’s not really for anything, just a bit of playing around. I’m pretty happy with how it turned out just the same!

The verse was written by [Carl Sandburg] in 1918. Apart from being an interesting commentary on human nature I thought the verse used in the image was an interesting fit for the druid.

I find that one of the more fun things about the design process is starting out with just a vague concept and building on it. Anyone got any similar stuff to share?

  1. I have an unfinished project I began working on last Summer. I took the sketch “Perspective” by Escher and broke it into 12 sections. Each section was to be an 8×11 sheet of paper. I have no straightedge, so it was all done freehand, and I tried to stay true to the shading technique of cross-hatch (which means shading by drawing criss-crossing lines. It takes for-fucking-ever).

Unfortunately I only got two sections in before work and school occupied my time, and I just never got back into the mood to keep working on it.

This is what I had, though:

I also once bought a 5 pound bag of Smarties one day after Halloween for about $2. I would often be up at 2 or 3 AM watching TV at the time, and usually when I get a package of 10 Smarties, I build a little pyramid out of them, then eat it. Well, I expanded on that idea and started making a very big pyramid.

  2. WOW – to both you and Zevia. The most arty thing I have ever done it copy Winnie the Pooh images into pictures on my children’s bedroom walls (using the square technique). I can’t bring myself to paint over them, so now my home work office has 6 large Disney images on it :S

But your images are amazing :)

  3. Very nice work!

  4. I have all the artistic ability of a fish in a bag.

But this looks fantastic, and I love the quote.
