Insane Changes – New FAQ Page
Interesting couple of days! Yes I’m getting a heap of emails from people about the Blizzcon Q&A panel information on insane in the membrane changes. We still have over a month before Cataclysm and I have a feeling the true extent of the changes won’t prevent the dedicated amongst you achieving your title.
I’ll be keeping an eye on the comments here and on twitter so if you have any niggling questions then ask them. There’s a whole community of insane around here and plenty of assistance to make sure you get the help you need!

I haven’t even started with this achievement. I’m on a medium population server, and I’m wondering, with Cataclysm a little over a month away, should I even bother to start on this? And which faction should I start with if I do?
Check the FAQ page for specific instructions on where to start – definitely Bloodsail first is the easiest I think.
Awesome, thank you! I really ought to learn to check out every single link! haha
Hi Saate, I was wondering if it is actually needed to be FULL honored with bloodsail buccaneers? Because from what I’ve read everywhere else there’s nothing mentioned about this and when i have the ingame achievement tracker on it set Bloodsail as complete the moment I reached honored.
ravenholdt done, have 1/2 the materials for shen’d and im only 1/2 way done killing BB guards……………..im fucked
I made the following suggestion on the forums. I know it’s a long shot, but I wanted to put the idea out there and get your thoughts on it.
http://forums.worldofwarcraft.com/thread.html?topicId=27387877778&postId=273977435481&sid=1#0
As for my title…I’ll almost surely be finished with it by Cata. It seems however that I will never have the time to increase my 81/1000 with the buccaneers to 999/1000. My OCD will just have to deal with it.
@elenoctae – Interesting idea but I have a feeling it’s moving away from the spirit of what ‘reputation’ is actually supposed to exist for in game. Think about some of the BC type reps where they don’t talk to you until you get to friendly. That’s the kind of function reputation is supposed to have in game instead of being just another number to grind.
I read that Ravenholdt is also not advancing rep in the Beta. So, my question is this: when will this change make it to the lives servers?
Will some of these Reps stop advancing on December 7th, when Cata comes out, or will it change when patch 4.0.3 is released. I ask this because isn’t 4.0.3 the patch where the world is broken?
It is certainly when ZG is removed, so isn’t that when the world is changing?
This worries me because if some of these reps are removed in 4.0.3 then that gives us even LESS time to finish Insane…
Thoughts?
@Saite – There’s no confirmation on ravenholdt rep being removed. At this stage it’s only been reported that the npc’s you can kill to get to max honored (Durnholde Keep) are being removed. The rep will still be there but at the very least people should grind those npc’s to max honored just in case.
Well, if you look at some of the comments going around it seems that Blizzard don’t want these ‘useless’ rep grinds. They want factions to be for something. Couple that statement with the fact that people have told me that the lock-boxes don’t give rep in the Beta builds, and it worries me.
I have the title but am working hard to help my friend get it, and my advice to him has been to get Ravenholdt done before 4.0.3. So, just looking for some more info on whether that advice is still good. The lock-box not giving rep in the Beta could be a bug, but looking at some of the accompanying Blizzard comments, it might not!
Anyone else have experience of lock-boxes in the Beta? Would be good to build a more accurate picture.
Good luck all!
@ Saate. I agree, and I wouldn’t wish to change that functionality. I only want there to be a way for us hardcore rep grinding fools :) to protect our investment, so to speak, against the actions of careless party members. I don’t think my proposal would change how rep is earned, or the ability to interact with hated groups, in the least…at least that is not the intention.
Heya Saate and the rest of you!
Firstly thanks for an awsome site, helped me a lot in dark times! But now for some more serious matter. At the moment Darkmoon Faire is the only one I do have left and with herbs and decks skyrocketing the last week it hasen’t been that easy getting towards that exalted goal. So my question is simply.. since we haven’t recieved any information regarding which factions that are actually going away (except that the Bloodsail?) can someone of you out there who can enter the beta, help me, and also others, by handing in a deck and see if any darkmoon faire rep is beeing handed out? It wouldn’t be the ultimate test of course and nothing says it would stay that way but it would maybe give some hope! Please I ask on my knees.. anyone able to help a aspiring insane paladin?
Kind regards
Afze – Bloodfeather-EU
@Afze: I’m not in the beta, but according to WowHead Cata side, the lvl 85 darkmoonfaire decks reward 350 rep, so I’d wager DMF will still be possible :)
And on a side note, <6k DMF rep until I have my 2nd Insane…I really need to get a job.
What I am most curies about, is if you have meet the requirements for the factions that are being removed, but you still dont get the title before, will you then still be able to get it, if you get what you need, for an exampel gets dmf to exalted as the last needed?
I think we’re all wondering exactly when this is going (rumored 4.0.3a) and what is actually being removed. I’d also like to know if we can still get the FoS if we complete the achievements being removed now, and complete the remaining ones (if any) in Cata?
I’m just farming the mats for my librams then Shen’dralar is done. But I’ve still got to farm lockboxes and do DMF :( It doesn’t look good.
As cool as it would be to work on this over a stretch of time, I’m just not feeling it’s worth it to grind it all out over the next month. There are plenty of other things I’d like to get done before the Cataclysm arrives, and I feel like this achievement alone would be a full-time job. If they weren’t removing it I’d start working on it casually over a long period. There’s gold to be made, alts to level, achievements and mounts to farm, and raiding when I can, on top of searching for a job. I wish they weren’t removing this, so that maybe I could work on one rep per month at a leisurely pace. I haven’t even really begun on any of them, and there’s just too much I’d have to do. “The Insane” is a cool title, but I guess I will have to pass. I tip my hat to those that have obtained it, as well as those who are close! To those still working on it and are determined, I wish you the best of luck!
Let’s say I had an inkling on this a while back when i heard a few months ago the goblin from dire maul would no longer give rep / be there for free knot etc. HOWEVER, a blue did confirm the rep was staying in cataclysm. This gave many people a false sense of security and time was not so much an issue.
If the question hadn’t of been asked at Blizzcon, would they have said anything at all to let everyone know? Doubtful.
GL to all desperately trying to get this done – A small suggestion I would have (esp for the expensive Shen’dralar rep) is farm as many mats as you can – hold off on doing mass hand ins until pilgrim’s festival begins. Yes i realize its cutting it very close dates wise (being 21st 27th of november) but it could save you a few hand ins having a 10% rep buff.
PBD’s are normally hard to get hold of regardless, let alone since the news came out and they are selling like hot cakes.
Fingers crossed for all you last minute farmers, hope you get it done :)
Here’s a question for you all. Anyone know if the 10% rep bonus you can get during Pilgrim’s Bounty stacks with the 10% bonus that humans get. In either case keep that bonus in mind when turning in your Shen’Dralar items or Darkmoon decks.
@Elenoctae: From reading I believe it does, although I’m not 100% sure.
Also, don’t forget about the Invocation of the Wickerman buff which gives you 10% rep and exp buff too during Hallow’s End. We’ve only got till midnight sunday to get it though :( so it’s best to log out on your Insane char and only log in when you need to turn stuff in in order to keep it for as long as possible (the buff lasts 2h). This is what I plan on doing the rest of this week.
As someone who’s close to 999/1000 exalted with the bloodsail buccaneers i’ve been keeping a close eye on booty bay and any quests to keep away from
None of this is obviously 100% certain, beta beeing beta and all that but here goes. From playing around in Beta for a while, it appears to me that you can still get bloodsail rep when cata hits. From what i’ve gathered there is a chain of quests in Booty Bay, and once you do these bloodsail will be phased out and “gone”. But from what i’ve seen so far there’s nothing stopping you from getting the bloodsail rep up before doing these quests, except maybe the fact that BB guards now are lvl85 with ~150k hp, still pretty easy kills for a lvl85 but you cant farm with the same speed as you currently can.
The only disheartening thing is that i’ve seen reports on that finishing this quest-line completely destroys any bloodsail rep you might have had, one guy going from revered all the way to 0/36000 hated
And on Shen’dralar, while it’s probably nothing, it can be worth noticing that the ingame quest-helper tip for handing in librams have changed in 4.0.1 and now says “Return to Lorekeeper Lydros at Dalaran Crater in Alterac Mountains”. He is still located in Dire Maul and there’s nothing new at the Dalaran Crater.
I was hurt to hear this news… And worse still, we dont even have full confirmation on a) the title will defo be unobtainable or b) if you have the reqs that are being removed already, can you still get credit.
Thats the boat im in. Through dilligent work I have everything in order with the exception of darkmoon faire of which I still need 18k.
On the whole it could be alot worse, but on the other hand trying to cram in 18k worth of rep in possibly 2 weeks (if the new patch does indeed kill this FoS before cata actually hits)while working a full time job is gonna be tough.
I have taken the liberty of recruiting a budding herbalist to help me farm and I intend to pay top dollar for those herbs she gets, but I just cannot afford the AH prices anymore since the prices for all things darkmoon (herbs and otherwise) have mysteriously risen tenfold.
2 weeks. Either a screenie of myself with insane title will appear on the site or some serious QQ’ing takes place. Watch this space…
@bjaxoldo
i hear you mean, i hear you. if ANYONE is able to shed some light on this anytime soon it would be great! im only missing DMF myself aswell, and i guess theres a lot of us out there that want to know if we can still get our insane FoS after the release of cata.. :(
To ask my question once again..is it really needed to have FULL honored or just to be honored?
@Etherne
No, you just need Honored, so as soon as you go into Honored it counts.
It works the same way as all the Rep Achievements, for example, you never need to get FULL exalted for the Achievements, you just have to get into Exalted.
Bloodsail at Honored works the same way, you just need to tip it into Honored.
Good luck.
Okay, major panic…
If the mechanism to get Insane is removed in 4.0.3A, and if 4.0.3A hits one week before Cata, then that means that the current November DMF is the last chance to hand in decks for rep if we want to be safe. And that means we need ALL cards and decks by the 6th November?
Thoughts?
Saite, where did u get this intel :( ?
Well, I just put together a few pieces of the puzzle…
Firstly, there is the announcement we have all seen:
http://blue.mmo-champion.com/t/27401643624/blizz-quot-the-insane-quot-and-cataclysm/
Then there was this confirmation that the ‘Shattering’ will occur in 4.0.3A, which is actually happening before Cataclysm:
http://blue.mmo-champion.com/t/27387367728/when-is-quot-the-shattering-quot-coming/
So, all that led me to think hard about this…
Firstly, we have no idea if we can continue to get rep for DMF after 4.0.3A. Worse, we are not sure if the ‘triggers’ that allow the completion of Insane will even be activate after 4.0.3A hits.
Anyone wanting to be 100% sure of getting Insane has to then look at the in-game calendar and you will see that the December DMF doesn’t start until 5th December. That is just 2 days before Cataclysm starts, and I think we all have to assume that the patch 4.0.3A will launch well before the 5th December.
So, for those wanting a sure-fire way of getting Insane it means you have to complete your DMF rep by the 6th November, because that is when this current DMF ends and it looks sure to be the last DMF before 4.0.3A.
I remember reading this also, I believe it was on MMO Champion. Patch 4.0.3 will give us the world changes, but they wont go live till 4.0.3a. And Blizz have said these patches will hit about a week or 2 before 7th Dec. I wish we knew 100% that DMF is safe, lots of us only have this left :( (I will once I finish farming the junkboxes).
i started a GM petition guys, i can advice the rest of you to do the same to see with what results we come up with!
Thanks for the latest news even that the ones about the darkmoon faire now existing was kinda bringing my hopes down further.
Quick question to the people here who has done some dmf grinding. Is doing the level 60 decks possible and quite good? There are no need for any kind of eternal life and you can also farm them in outlands on a flying mount?
And if this is indeed our last darkmoon faire that can give us rep before cata and also maybe title, has anyone really done a big grind with rogue decks? Is it possible or just plain stupid to try get say 80 regular decks worth in rogue decks? Kinda the last case scenario if we need to hand in at all time.
well the 60′s epic decks are certainly viable, and you do need primal lifes which is simply the outland version of eternals. 3 Per card. But up in Skettis are these tree elementals that can be herbed on death. they give out plenty of motes of life so farming them isnt an issue really, especially since the mentioned mob also gives herbs on death, making the grind contained to 1 place.
The issue there is the epic decks take 8 cards each and as always it random what you get. And with 7 or 8 different decks (A guess im not 100% how many there are at 60) this method could take a long long time to gather the 60 or so decks needed.
On the other hand rogue decks only take 3 cards and so your chances of making a complete deck are higher in the time given. But on the flip side you need a great deal more. At a guess I would say rogues decks are the faster choice, but that depends on how many primal lifes you can gather be it farming or AH…
@bjaxoldo
Ah thanks for the info. Even though the decks I meant were the vanilla ones, ie level 60. Theese ones doesn’t seem to be needing primal/eternal life equivalent. But farming the material for the rogues deck.. viable? Good spots?
Just for clarity, Insane in the Membrane will not be removed in Cataclysm. We can only confirm this one for you, but since it’s undoubtedly one of the most brain-melting achievements, we thought it nice to let you know that you don’t have to rush to have this done before the expansion. ;)

are we buying this?
I asked a GM about this tonight and they basically said the same thing, that IitM would not be available after “the shattering” but that things weren’t written in stone. I’ve been working on this thing for months, doing my own farming, and it really makes me sick that I would fail because I ran out of time especially if there is DMF rep after Cat…I too am one of those that only have that rep left. Is there a petition or thread or something that we could all sign where the GM’s could see it so they’d know there were a lot of us?
@Reseda
Thats an old old post, about a year old. They recently leaked info to the contrary.
@Afze
Ah my bad, I sometimes forget there are 4 decks or so that are classed as epic in vanilla (i.e 350 rep)
Those require 5 ink of the sky, plus 2 shimmering ink, plus the parchment ofc. Ink of the Sky is the rare ink and seeing as you need 5 per card this time instead of the usual 1 for the basics, it’s gonna take longer for sure. And as I recall those level herbs are harder to farm seeing as the zones they lay in are not exactly herb heavy at the best of times.
But as you say, rogue decks… Your best spots are wetlands and stranglethorn vale, as both are rich in herbs. Personally I prefer wetlands as its less travelled and doesnt have all them annoying hills the vale has.
As a side note you will get a cross over of herbs there. Meaning you will also pick up herbs for the next deck of cards (Swords). Not a terrible thing as you only need 4 for that deck, plus the item you can get is blue quality and can sell rather well.
Incidently, I dont know how far along your rep you are, but to get from revered to exalted with only the 25 rep hand in’s you need a whopping 840 decks… good luck, cos im in the same boat!
bjaxoldo, u got a source about said leaked info ?
@ everyone, good news!
a VERY interesting read!
http://forums.wow-europe.com/thread.html?topicId=15111026174&sid=1
@reseda
It was an announcement at the blizzcon event. Speciafically I believe it was a reply to a question someone asked so chances are that unless it was asked blizz would not even have told us the danger to this achieve.
Theres tons of posts about this across the WoW forums, go check em out. Basically the trouble started when beta players recorded problems rep grinding with shed’relar (The npc either wastn there or wasnt offering quests I forget which) and since then there seems to have been doubts thrown on the bloodsail rep grind.
Also I recently hear that ravenholdt are having the same issues. But its the world changing that will let us know for sure, and that will be happening in the patch before cata hits…so not long at all.

Just thought you guys might want to read this :)
This just in…Insane will remain in Cataclysm minus Shen’drelar rep! Effective with patch 4.03a The Shattering. Click link for details.
