Shen’dralar Exalted – User Submitted Tips
Given that the current insane reputation guides are now approaching their first birthdays I thought it might be relevant to go through each one and post a summary of the best user submitted comments.
This is also a great chance for everyone to post feedback and updates on how they feel things have changed in the last year. A great example for the Shen’dralar is the price and availability of [Pristine Black Diamonds] .
Here are my picks from all the user submitted tips:
- Hellmatador reminded us that there’s a prequest to being able to turn in the librams. This prequest is called [Elven Legends].
- Azurexia pointed out that people with the [Argent Pony Bridle] (150 Seals in Icecrown) can summon their Argent Squire and access their bank, vendor or mailbox for 3 minutes once every 4 hours. This is very handy for libram turnins!
- Apiecost pointed out that everyone except Death Knights can also turn in their class-specific quest book for a one off 500 reputation.
- Disreputable carried the libram quest items (minus the libram) on her when farming in Dire Maul. That way whenever she had a unique libram drop she could turn it in straight away without having to run to the nearest mailbox.
- Insane parked an alt outside on a second account. Whenever his bags got filled with materials he could zone out and trade the items over to his alt to free up bag space.
- Manmana took up skinning while doing Dire Maul runs and acquired a large amount of Rugged Leather. The profit from this helped offset the cost of the other reputations.
- While running Dire Maul, Darolyn grouped his character with a friends 225 enchanting paladin alt. Even though the alt wasnt with him or even online this allowed him to select ‘disenchant’ when items came up.
- Trytobuyme commented that farming low level herbs for Darkmoon Cards is a waste. It’s best to farm high level herbs or anything else more valuable and sell it to buy the low level herbs.
- Ronahan emphasized the importance of advertising for [Pristine Black Diamonds] in trade and making COD deals with people. He got a lot of his diamonds at a good price doing this.
So – what has everyone got to add? A year ago people commented and complained that [Pristine Black Diamond] prices on their servers were 50-100g. Now we’re looking at 300g and upwards! Would love to hear your questions, comments and feedback :)

Isn’t the cooldown on the Argent Pony Bridle four (4) hours instead of one?
i paid 400g+ for my last 10 PDB. wish i’d started a year earlier!
The market for Pristine Black Diamonds was so barren on my relatively low-pop server that I patrolled around other servers and just server transferred there to buy em.
I figure I could spend countless hours earning the necessary gold to buy the once-in-a-blue-moon PBD for 500g, or I could just cut a couple cups of coffee out of my weekly repitoire and server transfer.
Yeah, the Argent Pony Bridle’s cooldown is 4 hours. Also very helpful when turning in Heavy Junkboxes! The Traveler’s Tundra Mammoth is nice too for selling grays or buying more ammo, reagents, etc (I frequently ran out of arrows….).
Best advice I can give anyone is to loot everything you kill. Especially in DM, Scholo, and Strath. This may take a little longer, but everything you loot (whites to purles) can be sold for asinine prices on the AH. I made bank doing this. Always have an enchanter in the group with you so you can DE BoP gear and greens. :) Very easy to get all the Large Brilliant Shards you’ll need this way. If you have a gathering profession, take advantage of it. Lots of skinning to be done in Dire Maul North (they usually give Rugged Leather). Park an alt/friend outside where you’re farming so you can hand off extra librams or stuff if your bags get full.
And unless you’re in a rush to get the title quickly…. Take your time and be patient. For me, as soon as I turn in my last 4 decks when the Darkmoon Faire rolls around on June 6th, it’ll have been a year and 1 month since I started working (*on and off*) on this achievement. (Only took a month to do the bulk of the grinds.)
I never bought Pristine Black Diamonds unless they were under 100g. This didn’t occur very often, but I was able to save gold doing this. Advertise on Trade every time you come into a major city. People will usually sell for much lower than AH prices. And, if you’re lucky, a few may drop during your grinds. :)
If you want to buy librams, /who and pst the people in DM explaining that you’re looking to buy librams (and if they don’t have any at that time, explain that if they get any, they CoD ‘em to you). They’ll usually sell ‘em very cheap to you.
Don’t waste your time farming herbs. If you see an herb while grinding, herb it, but don’t go out of your way to farm herbs. Completed decks can be pretty spendy, so I’d only buy them if they were under 200g (rare, but did happen occasionally… especially after Blizz made changes to the AH). The bulk of my decks I made my self, buying individual cards for 20g or less (or pigment/ink if it was VERY cheap). My decks cost me on average 200g, but I was able to sell the trinkets for 350-1000g! Even the greens and blues you get from Rogues, Swords, and Mages (a deck that I spent or put together for 14g or less) I was able to sell for a profit (20-50g). And if people attempt to undercut you, don’t lower your price. Ignore it and someone will buy your crap eventually (it may take a while, but you’ll profit a lot). There isn’t a high demand for Darkmoon trinkets on Misha, but people will buy them for much higher than it cost to make ‘em.
The point here is that you don’t have to loose gold on this achievement. You can easily make more than you spent (or at least gain back some of what you lost) if you play it *relatively* cheap and work the AH in your favor. Loot everything, especially in instances!! Put your loot in the AH and people will throw money at you… ;D
Thanks guys, updated the Argent Pony Bridle to reflect the 4 hour cooldown.
@Cassi – Awesome writeup :)
While farming DM you don’t necessarily have to find a low level not in instance to group with – Just find an enchanter to group with that is about to go to bed or log off – Have them Alt+F4 out of game (instead of /quit or /logout) and you can stay in group with them and D/E to your hearts extent.
I honestly have MANY good tips for the Shend grind as well as the Insane grind now that I am finishing it on my alt…. I’m just too tired to type it all up right now :)
It may sound obvious, but prices are *very* server dependent. I’m looking at 350g and upwards per epic deck on US-Hyjal and the trinkets don’t sell.
Haha, I got quoted! SWEET. I’m actually a girl, but I don’t mind being referred to as a guy.
On another note, I’m almost done with my SECOND Insane grind! Just have Darkmoon Faire left, and that’s almost entirely dependant on my current server which has zero card decks for sale at any given time. Making the Rogue Decks is slow going, but it works.
@Disreputable – Fixed, with apologies! <3 I think I’ll justify my incorrect assumption by stating that I have such respect for women that the notion of marrying the alias ‘disreputable’ with your gender seemed ludicrous :p
Also, if this grind is still doable around Thanksgiving time, you should be able to get the Pilgrim’s Bounty world event buff, “The Spirit of Sharing” (http://www.wowwiki.com/The_Spirit_of_Sharing)
Which should apply to all turnins and farmed reps of any kind. I started my grind to late to take advantage of this, but if Cata isn’t out by Pilgrim’s time this year, I will have that buff going every moment that I am online.
Hello. Well. I’ve started insane grinding not that long ago. So I’m actually worried if it is going to be possible to finish it in cataclysm? Any blue posts saying something about the future of this achievement?
Insane is definitely going to remain around for Cataclysm, there’s been a blue post about it pretty early on. I’ll make a post when I remember with a link :)
Situation on Rnetotem (EU): PBD are very rare on AH, price is sometimes (for a very short time) under 200 g, usually 350-500 g. I didn’t see Libram of Protection a week or two on AH, other two librams are 2-3 there, prices of them are simmilar PBD. I check AH for this stuff 2-3 times per day.
Making a full clear out of the farming in DM gives a bigger chance for both librams, PBD and thousands of gold. Also Enchanting, provides lots of gold, mount vendors, decrease downtime and at last, big bags, are things that helps in the progress.
If your are to lazy to farm them yourself, i suggest to become good friends with those who often sell PBD, this can get you a cut of the price…
When i bought the diamonds on AH and true other players i gave around 100-125 g each diamond. Now a days the price is around 200-250g each.
This is on Dreanor, on the european wow server
If you still are a litle bit sane after you get your achivement, you can earn big money pick pocketing Heavy junkboxes to others on the server, if of course there is others who are trying to loose there mind :D
Lots of stuff (diamonds, missing cards, decks, herbs, eternals and so on..) can oftenly be found on opposing faction auction house. Make 2 chars there, put one in any major citys AH, put another in front of XFaction AH. Use friend to help you transfer stuff over xfaction AH to avoid risking selling your stuff to wrong person for 1 copper.
When you farm DM North and don’t have any space left in your bags you can kill the king and ‘become’ the new king. If you haven’t killed the drunken ogre in the beginning of the instance you can sell all your gray/white stuff that’s just taking space in your bags.
I started collecting my PBD while my friends and I were all transferring to another server. My new Higher Pop server was extremely expensive for PBD. I started searching my old server and found amazing prices. Between horde and alliance on my smaller server I got about 60 PBD for around 100g each or less. When another one of my friends transferred I sent all the PBD with him. So given the opprotunity check, low pop servers for stuff. The less inflated economy can prove beneficial.
Almost done with this faction, it’s been one of the more fun parts to grind because it takes you outside of Dire Maul and back to some really fun classic content. After spending 2 weeks in LBRS (lazy rogues on my server, not one box COD for 15g per), this is a dream and I’m in no rush to finish it immediately.
My tip: When in Dire Maul, /who every so often. Any level 80 in there is probably doing Insane. Be proactive, meet them in tells. I’ve met several others that are making their own cards for DMF (trading buddies, first selection!) and we help each other out for things like holding librams when they double drop. They can also be a source for other resources and future sellers or buyers of stuff when either finishes parts of the grind or gives up.
I run protection paladin, so if you are a tank collecting the skins, four of the last 6 bosses in Scholo can be chain pulled except for Doctor and Instructor (they reset when you leave the room). Start at Lorekeeper, jump down, pull Lady Barov, run over and snag TR, and bum rush Alexi. You should have about 30 or so mobs on you. Lots of loot and for me this was more interesting, I like to kill GMG each run for the extra shards and a shot at the Ace.
I also wanted to add that in WPL when collecting Blood of Heroes, one of the spawn points is in the far north by Hearthglen. It’s worth your time to wipe out all the spellcasters to get a possible Crusader Enchant recipe drop. 300g is 300g.
