One day left – 3 more loot cards to win!
Are you guys sick of me giving away stuff yet? :)
In another day the new site design will launch and I can celebrate 5 years of saate.net in style.

The memories that December 2005 post bring back are strange, too. I can remember that at the time I was making my gold by doing stealth mining runs in BRD and then stealthing all the way to the Black Forge. With a [Greater Fire Protection Potion] I could only JUST solo the fireguard that was next to it. Being able to do this paid massive dividends though and I was practically rolling in it (I’m talking a thousand gold here folks!).
The biggest gold sink in the game at the time was getting your epic mount. I decided to take the extremely uncommon route of gaining exalted with Stormwind and buying a horse as my first epic mount. It was worth it for all the whispers I got about it – “What the hell, a night elf on a horse?”. I’d later go on to buy an epic ram and an epic tiger – you better believe people talked about my mount collection!
If it sounds strange for you to imagine any of that it’s even stranger for me to remember it. We’ve come a long way from those days eh?
On to the winning of things!
Let’s go in a different direction today. Since I’ve been posting these around midnight my time I tend to read all the comments when as I have breakfast and it’s a great way to start the day. So today there are two ways you can win:
1) Everyone has something they’re good at – I want to know what your special talent is. What is it that you’re better than most people at? (Yes, sigh, I suppose counting to 31 in binary on 1 hand in 9 seconds counts… :p)
2) One of the big focus points of the new layout will be the forums. Although they’ll look different in appearance the coding will largely be the same. Create an account on the forums and make a post – if anything seems broken or not working it’d be great to know via a forum post or email.
3) Bonus Method – Combining 1 & 2 totally blow my mind by posting about your special talent ON the forums…woah!
(Note to Dregor – Since you’ve established the pattern now you also need to post a boring fact first :ppp)
Thats enough from me I think, night!
What’s in a name?
So if you’ve read my ‘About Saate’ page you’ll know that I’ve been using the name ‘Saate’ for over 20 years. Not that I’m particularly old (still in my twenties!) but rather that I came up with the name at a young age and have just stuck with it ever since.
I’ve been using the name for so long, in fact, that my signature is even a flourished version of the word ‘Saate’. It’s very difficult for me, then, to identify with folks who don’t seem to have a fixed alias and flow freely and regularly from one random name to another.
It’s even more shocking for me that some people are content to wear around names like “rougedeth” with blatant spelling mistakes that only serve to portray a negative initial perception toward strangers.
The answer is not that those others and I see things any differently, it’s actually that we see them the same. That which name continuity provides me – Identity, Reputation and Legacy – is what others would seek to avoid. To be able to slough off one identity for another is a valuable freedom to them.
I’m curious to hear what your perspectives are. How long have you been using your alias and how did you come up with it? Any good stories to share?
Zevia: Oh no, he didn’t!
So a couple of weeks back Zevia put together the beginnings of a…wait for it…saate.net rap. I think at the time he referred to the event as a DZD, or Dead Zevia Day.
Zev’s usual amazing production values are evident and it’s actually pretty fun to listen to. If you guys are also suitably amused then make sure to leave a comment and lets see if we can rope him into doing some more.
Got ideas? themes? wanna be included? Comment, comment, comment!
Introducing Zevia!
It gives me great pleasure to welcome a new regular to the site – Zevia! After getting to know him whilst putting together the article for QQ Premades both Serephim and I were impressed with his prior work on podcasts.
After some initial chats we were excited to welcome him on board the saate.net team! He’ll be using his amazing vocal talents to bring us a weekly podcast on…well..whatever you guys want it to be on! I’ll let Zevia introduce himself now, check out his great first episode:
What would you like to see in episode two? leave your questions, ideas and feedback below!
Vanilla Saate
Was messing about on the FTP server today and stumbled across my very old saate.net index files. It made me grin so much reading it and remembering that stuff that I had to share it with you guys. Some of my longtime friends will no doubt still recognise some of the stuff there.
It’s really hard to believe that it was all so long ago too, I mean 2005?! What were you guys doing back then? If you’ve got any cool stories or screenshots send them through!
Glory of the Ulduar Raider complete, and farewell to Shadowsong
So last weekend we knocked out [I Love the Smell of Saronite in the Morning] and [One Light in the Darkness] which were the last achievements we needed to get our 310% drakes.
I managed to fraps our General Vezax hardmode kill and uploaded it to YouTube to share with you guys:
In other news my guild Enraged has transferred from Shadowsong to Aman’thul which is an Oceanic server set to Australian times which means waaaaay more people around during our prime time.
More guides coming soon – I’ve been thinking about getting an Asus EEPC to do some guide work while I’m away for work, anyone used them before that can give me advice?
New section added
Just a really quick post to mention that I’ve finished my ‘About Saate’ section of the site. You can see the link to it on the top-right corner. Since I’ve played a few MMO’s in the past and had a lot of different screenshots saved for a rainy day I figured it would be a cool idea to write a little bit about each of the old games.
I should add some info on Eve Online too, but I dont think I’ve got screenshots – maybe a future update. Anyway check it out and let me know what you think!
Really excited to get it done too because it means I can start on the new ‘obsessions’ feature where I’ll be doing articles on different people in wow and the many and varied obsessions they have :)
